A performance blending humor, philosophy and contemporary art

A flea market. A painting. A potential adventure.

Nicolas Heredia holding a reproduction of Gustave Courbet’s The Origin of the World as part of the performance presented by La Garance in Cavaillon

Presented with La Garance, Scène nationale de Cavaillon, The Origin of the World (46x55) is a creation by Nicolas Heredia and his company La Vaste Entreprise. This piece of contemporary theatre questions, with humor and subtlety, the value we assign to a work of art.

It all begins at a flea market, where the artist discovers a reproduction of the famous painting by Gustave Courbet. From this discovery arises a poetic and playful investigation: what gives an artwork its value? Its story? Its authenticity? The gaze we cast upon it?

On stage, objects, memories and reflections intertwine in a witty performance. Nicolas Heredia plays with the boundaries between theatre and lecture, blending self-mockery and everyday poetry to offer a moment of living theatre—intelligent, sensitive and accessible to all.

La Vaste Entreprise

Founded by Nicolas Heredia, La Vaste Entreprise has been developing since 2007 artistic creations at the crossroads of performing, visual and live arts. The company designs a variety of formats, performances, installations, and shows, drawing inspiration from reality: found objects, encounters in situ, personal stories, and happy coincidences. Each project is conceived to awaken the audience’s sensitivity through an organic, playful, and ever-evolving artistic approach.

La Vaste Entreprise is supported by the French Ministry of Culture (DGCA), DRAC Occitanie, the Occitanie Region, the Hérault Department, Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, the City of Montpellier, Occitanie en Scène, and ONDA. Its artistic vision favors the poetry of everyday life over the spectacular.
