Nora and Léo meet on the first day of the new school year. Their eyes lock and everything is said. Nora lives in the city's low-income housing complex, Léo in the residential area. Nora's brother, Tarek, works as a handler at the local hypermarket. Accused of theft, he proclaims his innocence, but the shop manager doesn't want to hear it and fires him on the spot. The manager is Franck, Léo's father. The two families clash, differences flare up and chaos ensues. Nora and Léo's lives become entangled and tragic.

Great encounters with the audience

"We are in the middle of a tour to present the film and the reception each time is great. I can't believe it, what a reward! These previews are an opportunity for me to meet the audience and to confront the film: to see if the audience is in phase with my point of view of life.

As long as I am in tune, I will make films. The day I'm not, I'll stop. Of course, I made this film first for the first viewer I know: myself. But I absolutely must be in tune with others, it's really a necessity! That's why all these previews, I need to know what people think of it. I've had a lot of feedback from high school students, I really have this impression that the film speaks to them and that's incredible!"

What made me want to make this film...

"It was simply meeting a very young couple who I found very loving and very sad at the same time. They explained to me that there was a family problem, that they were not really allowed to be together, to see each other as they did so assiduously and lovingly.

I had the impression that I was in Shakespeare's house, that it was Romeo and Juliet. I said to myself that I absolutely had to tell this story today in a contemporary way. I loved, but really loved telling this story!"

Cavaillon: wonderful memories!

"I know Cavaillon very well. For me, Eric and Janine are the two best exhibitors in France. My film "Le fils de Jean" was shown for months in their cinema in Cavaillon. They have such an intimate and intense contact and relationship with their audience that they encourage them to come and see the film and talk about it. When they like a film, they defend it as if they had made it and I love these people! And Cavaillon is such a nice town... I really had a wonderful memory every time I went there."

The final word

"I invite everyone to come and see my film because it's an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas during this preview. I have several anecdotes about the film that I will tell the audience after the film.  I'm looking forward to meeting the audience. From the moment you are in a theatre and you see their eyes shining, you know why you are in this business. So I want to see their eyes shine."
