Sommaire

Synopsis: During a coach tour, Rosalba (Licia Maglietta), a housewife from Pescara, is left behind at a roadside motorway service station. Rather than wait for her husband and children to come and collect her, she decides, feeling hurt, to return home on her own.
She finds herself in a car heading for Venice, a city she doesn’t know. What was supposed to be a day trip turns into a ‘mini-break’. Mimmo (Antonio Catania; *Ormai e fatta*), her husband, is furious. Discovering that one of his employees, Constantino (Giuseppe Battiston; The Acrobat), a hydraulics specialist, is an avid reader of crime novels, so he sends him to Venice in search of his wife.
Screened in the Directors’ Fortnight section at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival and selected for the official selection at the 28th Brussels International Film Festival, this light-hearted comedy by Silvio Soldini (Rom Tour) was a huge hit in Italy. *Bread, Tulips and Comedy* also won three David di Donatello Awards (the Italian equivalents of the Césars) – Best Cinematography, Best Director and Best Screenplay. Licia Maglietta won the David di Donatello Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, Bruno Ganz for Best Actor in a Leading Role, Marina Massironi for Best Actress in a Supporting Role and Giuseppe Battiston for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
