Discover clay hand-building at Atelier Chamotte

Hands shaping a clay piece during a pottery workshop in Cadenet

Fancy getting your hands into clay and making something of your own? At Atelier Chamotte in Cadenet, Lili Gazzera offers pottery classes focused on hand-building, an accessible way to explore clay without using a potter’s wheel.

During this 2.5-hour session, discover different hand-building techniques, including pinching, coiling, slab building and press moulding. Depending on your interests, create a functional or decorative piece while experimenting with shapes and textures.

With no more than six participants per class, Lili can offer individual guidance at your own pace, from your first steps with clay to the completion of your creation.

From clay to your finished pottery piece

Once you have shaped your piece, the process continues at the studio. Your creation is glazed and fired to bring out its colours and make it suitable for everyday use.

Allow one to two months before collecting your finished piece. If you are visiting the Luberon and cannot return to the studio, a delivery option is available for an additional fee.

Each handmade object bears the marks of the creative process and the changes that take place during firing. Slight variations and imperfections are part of the character of handmade pottery.
