Starting from the rest area on the road to Murs, this 3.9 km walk takes you into the wild universe of the Véroncle Gorge. Easy and accessible, the route follows a balcony trail before descending into the canyon floor, revealing contrasting landscapes between rocky relief and preserved nature.
The path alternates between spectacular panoramas and more intimate details: dry-stone retaining walls, sculpted cliffs, and cliff-dwelling flora clinging to the rock faces. The silence and serenity of the place enhance the feeling of being in a timeless site.
Highlight of the hike, the Jean-de-Marre Mill, built in the 16th century, is a testament to the ingenuity of the former millers. Its remains, alongside a nearby small tufa waterfall, recall both the heritage and natural wealth of the gorge.
Short but refreshing, this walk is a wonderful opportunity to discover the alliance between rural heritage and natural beauty of the Luberon, all year round.
The Jean-de-Marre Mill trail is accessible all year round. In spring, cliffside flora brightens the rock walls and paths. In summer, the descent into the gorge offers some freshness, but plan an early start and bring plenty of water. Autumn reveals golden light highlighting the cliffs and mill ruins, while winter brings a wilder, quieter atmosphere.
Before your outing, check the forest access conditions, regulated in summer due to fire risk.
