The time of the immaculate twigs.
André Horard from the Moulin du Clos des Jeannons in Gordes talks with passion about these iconic trees of Provence. The flowering of the olive tree is rather rapid, usually starts at the end of May and lasts about fifteen days. Don't worry, if you missed them we photographed them for you!

From flower to olive...
Did you know that some species of olive trees are self-fertile; its own pollen can fertilize its own flowers, not surprising? Other species of olive trees are not self-fertile, their flowers need pollen from other varieties to be fertilized... But even in this case how does pollination take place?

Let the wind blow!
The olive blossom is not interested in bees, which are champions of pollination... Normally, if there is no pollination, there can be no fruit. But nature is well done! It is the wind that allows the flowers to come into contact with each other as the branches swing. Ideal in a region where the Mistral wind blows regularly!
2020, Happy New Year for the Olive Tree?

This year the conditions are ideal for pollination! We had heavy rains in April, perfect for the water reserves of trees. We are in full bloom and the sun is at the rendezvous to facilitate the opening of the flowers. To perfect the picture, the wind blows lightly on the branches that swing and scatter their seed.

At the turn of a path when you come across an olive tree, don't forget that it is unique!
Of all sizes and shapes, they enchant our landscape, stay connected to learn more soon!
