Luberon, Durance, Calavon and Monts de Vaucluse: understanding landscapes and water

A scientific look at the landscapes of the Luberon

Luberon, Durance and Calavon valleys, Monts de Vaucluse is a conference that invites you to understand the links between water, landscapes and the geological history of the territory.

Water, an essential resource for living beings, has always shaped reliefs and natural environments. From the clouds to the sea, it circulates, infiltrates and transforms the landscapes of the Luberon, from the Durance and Calavon valleys to the Monts de Vaucluse.

This meeting is based on the work of Georges Truc, a researcher who has devoted more than forty years to the study of the Tertiary in South-East France, in particular to evaporitic deposits (salt, gypsum) and to the phenomena of carbonate epigenia.

Through an approach that is both scientific and accessible, this conference proposes to better understand the natural mechanisms that have shaped the territory and still influence its landscapes and uses today.

On the conference program

  • Understanding the water cycle and its role in landscape formation
  • Discover the Durance and Calavon valleys
  • Geological reading of the Luberon and the Monts de Vaucluse
  • Focus on evaporitic deposits (salt, gypsum)
  • Approach to the phenomena of carbonate epigenia
  • Link between geology, water and wine-growing areas

Retired in Vaucluse since 2005, Georges Truc continues his research with a particular interest in wine-growing areas, thus offering a unique insight into the interactions between nature, soil and human activities.

An enriching conference to better understand the Luberon territory and the natural forces that shape it.
