When to go?

The Chemins traversiers route can be enjoyed all year round. The best seasons are spring and autumn, when temperatures are mild and nature is particularly generous, with blossoms or golden autumn colors.
In summer, set off early in the morning to avoid the heat, carry enough water and check the access conditions for the massifs, which are subject to fire risk regulations.
On some sections (wooded areas, rocky descents), stay cautious and well equipped to hike safely.

Overview of the hike

Looking for a walk combining heritage and nature? The Chemins traversiers route links the peaceful village of Maubec with the unmissable Oppède-le-Vieux. Between cobbled streets, forest landscapes and views over the Calavon Valley, this loop offers an authentic immersion in the heart of the Luberon.

The starting point is in Maubec, near Saint-Maurice Church and the belfry. The path soon opens onto wooded, undulating trails punctuated by dry-stone walls, majestic cedars and remarkable viewpoints. The Combrès valley, a haven of biodiversity, accompanies your progress towards the gates of Oppède-le-Vieux.

In the medieval village, the walk reveals a well-preserved heritage: the Chapel of the White Penitents, the collegiate church of Notre-Dame d’Alydon, the ramparts and the ruins of the perched castle. The landscaped terraces of Sainte-Cécile and the Place de la Croix invite you to stroll through the picturesque lanes.

The return to Maubec is gentle, through farmland and country paths, offering a soothing contrast to the stony atmosphere of the hilltop sites. This varied hike, combining medieval heritage, natural richness and spectacular views, embodies the very essence of the Luberon.
