Every evening, the banks of the Sorgue become the setting for a free sound and light show entitled “Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Source of Legends”.
This new-generation show takes visitors deep into the mysteries of the spring and the legends surrounding the birth of the Sorgue. As the projections unfold, you will encounter the nymph who watches over the river, the Coulobre, a mythical creature depicted as a gigantic winged salamander, and the figure of Saint Véran.
Following its success with audiences, the show has been extended until Sunday 23 August 2026. Four free projections are presented every evening from 9:30 pm. A series of illuminated scenes gradually unfolds along the path, immersing visitors in a landscape transformed by light and sound.

Tips for enjoying the show
For the best view, you need to stand in line with the video projector. The projections are displayed on the vegetation above the Sorgue rather than on the cliffs, in order to protect the species nesting on this Natura 2000 protected site.
On site, security staff will guide you to the area offering the best visibility. Depending on visitor numbers, you may need to wait a little before accessing the recommended viewing area.
We recommend getting into position from 9:30 pm. The four projections take place at 9:45 pm, 10:10 pm, 10:35 pm and 11 pm.
The projections are separated by a break of around 10 minutes, giving spectators time to move into position or reach the viewing area safely.

With no screen or building façade, the images are projected directly onto tree trunks, branches and vegetation. The texture of the foliage and the movement of the trees become an integral part of the staging.
The show is gradually revealed along the path. A succession of visual scenes accompanies visitors on a journey inspired by water, myths and the landscapes of the Vaucluse.
A soundscape created especially for the site blends with the natural sounds of the Sorgue. Sound, music and the surrounding environment accompany the projections and deepen the audience’s sense of immersion.
The technical equipment is temporary and designed to respect the site. It leaves no visible trace during the day, allowing the landscape to return to its natural appearance after each evening’s performances.
The landscapes and legends of the Vaucluse come to life through the projections.
With Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Source of Legends, the site is brought to life through a poetic display of light inspired by water, myths and the landscapes of the Vaucluse. The show revives the stories linked to the chasm, the source of the Sorgue and the creatures that inhabit local folklore.
Along the route, visitors encounter the nymph who guards the river, the Coulobre, depicted as a gigantic winged salamander, and Saint Véran. The projections then take audiences on a journey through several of the region’s most iconic landmarks.
Mont Ventoux, the ochres of the Luberon, the Palais des Papes and several ancient theatres come together to create a fresco celebrating the landscapes, heritage and legends of the Vaucluse.
The show was created especially for Fontaine-de-Vaucluse by Avignon-based video artist Marie Jumelin. Combining animated images, light, music and the natural surroundings, the work offers an experience designed specifically for the Sorgue valley.
The production is brought to life by Artcom Diffusion, a company based in Pernes-les-Fontaines. The technical installation adapts to the irregular shapes of the trees and vegetation, allowing each projection to blend directly into the landscape.
Before or after the show, visitors can continue exploring the village of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, from the chasm and narrow streets to the banks of the Sorgue and its various heritage sites.
