Access to the Luberon forests - Forest fire risk

During the summer period, from 15 June to 15 September, access to Vaucluse forests is regulated. Find out more about access conditions.

Access to the Luberon Regional Nature Park and Monts de Vaucluse is regulated by prefectoral decree.
From 15 June to 15 September, when the risk of forest fires is highest, access to the Luberon and Monts de Vaucluse forests can be dangerous. Access is therefore regulated according to the daily weather risk.

Below are the different levels of fire risk and the sites that are accessible according to the level of risk.

"Extreme Red" risk

Exceptional risk - Access to forest areas and forestry work are prohibited throughout the day

"Red" risk

Very high risk - Access to forest areas is forbidden all day. Forestry work is possible from 5am to 1pm only.
Very high risk - Access to forest areas is forbidden all day. Forestry work is possible from 5am to 1pm only.

"Yellow" risk

Known risk - Access to forest areas and forestry work are possible, but recommended in the morning.

Green" risk

Measured risk - Access to forest areas and forestry work are possible throughout the day.

Sites accessible despite the "Red" risk

Some sites are accessible between 5am and 8pm. These sites are

  • Forêt des Cèdres du Petit Luberon (Bonnieux, Lacoste and Ménerbes)
  • Okra (commune of Roussillon)
  • Sentier des Ocres (Roussillon)
  • Colorado Provençal (Rustrel)
  • Accrobranches Colorado-Aventure (commune of Rustrel)

Whatever the level of risk

  • Do not smoke
  • Do not light fires
  • Do not camp
  • Do not drive or park on forest roads


In the event of a fire

  • Alert the fire brigade by dialling 112
  • Be as precise as possible about your location and what you see
  • Move away from the burnt area and do not stay in the path of the fire.


Camping and bivouacking

During the period from 15 June to 15 September, bivouacs and unauthorised camping are prohibited in the forest areas of the Vaucluse.

Vehicle traffic

It is forbidden to drive or park any motor vehicle on the unpaved tracks leading to the Bollène - Uchaux, Dentelles de Montmirail, Rasteau-Cairanne, Collines du Pays Voconces, Mont-Ventoux, Monts de Vaucluse, Vallée de Apt, Petit et Grand Luberon, Cadenet - Villelaure and Collines de Basse Durance forest areas, Monts de Vaucluse, Massif de la vallée d'Apt, Petit and Grand Luberon, Cadenet - Villelaure, Collines de Basse Durance, as well as the tarmac paths of Vidauque and Trou du Rat in the Petit Luberon massif are prohibited.
