Each summer, from June 15 to September 15, access to the Luberon and Monts de Vaucluse forest areas is regulated by a prefectural decree to prevent wildfire risks, depending on the daily fire risk level. Before any outdoor activity or visit to wooded areas (hiking, walks, picnicking…), it is essential to check the risk level.
To find out real-time restrictions due to fire risk, you can:
| Risk Level | Access to Forest Areas | Forestry Work |
|---|---|---|
GreenLow risk | Access allowed all day | Allowed all day |
YellowModerate risk | Access allowed (preferably in the morning) | Allowed, recommended in the morning |
RedHigh risk | Access prohibited all day (except exempted sites) | Allowed only from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. |
Extreme RedExceptional risk | Access prohibited all day | Prohibited all day |
Certain sites are granted an exception and remain accessible from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., except in cases of extreme red risk:
Regardless of the fire risk level, certain rules must always be followed for your safety and the protection of the environment:
Stay informed through official social media accounts, Météo France, or the media.
Always follow the instructions given by local authorities.
From June 15 to September 15, bivouacking and wild camping are prohibited inside the forest areas of the Vaucluse department.
The circulation and parking of any motor vehicle is prohibited on unpaved tracks serving the forest massifs (including the Petit and Grand Luberon). This also includes the paved roads of Vidauque and Trou du Rat.
