Each summer, from June 15 to September 15, access to the Luberon and Monts de Vaucluse forest areas is regulated by a prefectural decree to prevent wildfire risks, depending on the daily fire risk level. Before any outdoor activity or visit to wooded areas (hiking, walks, picnicking…), it is essential to check the risk level.

Safety rules to follow

Regardless of the fire risk level, certain rules must always be followed for your safety and the protection of the environment:

  • Do not smoke or throw cigarette butts, especially from a vehicle
  • Respect access restrictions to forest areas during risk periods (wind, drought…)
  • Never light a fire or barbecue, even more than 200 meters from wooded areas
  • Camp only in areas that are authorized, secure and protected
  • Do not drive or park on unauthorized forest roads
  • Use your vehicle only on marked or authorized paths
  • Keep your land and access paths clear if you are a resident or landowner

In case of fire outbreak

  • Alert emergency services immediately by calling 18 or 112
  • Give your exact location and describe the fire situation
  • Move away from the area safely and avoid the direction of the fire

Always follow the instructions given by local authorities.

Camping, bivouac and vehicle access in the forest areas

Camping and bivouac

From June 15 to September 15, bivouacking and wild camping are prohibited inside the forest areas of the Vaucluse department.

Vehicle access

The circulation and parking of any motor vehicle is prohibited on unpaved tracks serving the forest massifs (including the Petit and Grand Luberon). This also includes the paved roads of Vidauque and Trou du Rat.
