From the very first steps, the trail reaches the cedar forest of Cabrières, planted in the 19th century. The majestic Atlas cedars provide a shaded, peaceful atmosphere, ideal for a summer walk. This Mediterranean forest shelters a rich flora and fauna, such as holm oak, Aleppo pine and the great spotted woodpecker, recognizable by its drumming.

The route continues towards the Mur de la Peste, an impressive dry-stone structure built in 1721 to protect the Comtat Venaissin from the plague epidemic that started in Marseille. Walking along this restored wall, you will discover shelters, guard posts and enclosures that recall the crucial role of this sanitary barrier in Provence’s history.

Between garrigue landscapes, cedar forest and historical memory, this two-hour walk in Cabrières-d’Avignon is an unmissable experience for those wishing to combine nature and heritage during a stay in the Luberon.
