Each year, the charming village of Lauris takes on a thousand shades to celebrate the Festival of Natural Colours. For three days, the streets, gardens and emblematic venues host concerts, performances, workshops, guided tours and exhibitions dedicated to dye plants and artistic creativity.

A convivial and festive event to be enjoyed with family or friends, highlighting nature and the exceptional heritage of the Luberon.

Program 2025

THURSDAY

  • 10:00 am - Color Trail Walk (Maison Aubert)
    Set off on a walk to discover dye plants with students from the École Supérieure d’Art d’Aix-en-Provence and artist-in-residence Raed Issa, as part of a project led with the School of Color and supported by the Luberon Regional Nature Park.
  • From 6:00 pm - Colorful Aperitif at the farmers' market (Café Villageois)

FRIDAY

  • From 7:00 pm - Festival launch with an organic and local aperitif (Castle Courtyard)
  • From 7:00 pm - Natural makeup workshop for young and old (Castle Courtyard)
  • 8:00 pm - Concert with DJ S1GN4L (Castle Courtyard)
    Originally from Lauris, DJ S1GN4L takes the audience on a musical journey blending rock, electro, rap, jazz, and dub, for a colorful and eclectic evening.

SATURDAY

  • 9:30 am – Guided village tour (Fontaine du Canard)
    With Lucienne Ferrari, on the theme "The Colors of Time"
  • 10:00 am – Children's readings (Library)
    Under the shade of the trees, storytelling and picture books about color (from 3 years old)
  • 10:30 am – Guided tour of the Dye Plant Garden (Botanical Garden)
    With Florent Valentin, botanical gardener. Reservation recommended at 07 66 25 21 99
  • 10:30 am & 2:00 pm – Creative workshops for children and teens (Terrace des Arcades/White Garden)
    Mandala making and artistic discoveries
  • 12:30 pm – Colorful banquet (Terrace des Arcades)
    Meal prepared by the leisure center children and the village café. Pay what you want, limited seats, booking by email at cafevillageois@aumaquis.org
  • Artistic workshops and discoveries (Botanical Garden):
    - 2:30 pm – Natural color: Mali, apprentice tattoo artist, presents henna preparation and offers small tattoos for a free price
    - 2:30 pm – Natural painting, with the Friends of the Garden Association
    - 3:00 pm – Japanese green tea tasting with Nicolas Espinasse, from OCHAYA
    - 3:30 pm – Ink making with red cabbage
  • 4:30 pm – Show Via Verdi! Les Filles d’Ava (Espace Bloch)
    A lyrical and whimsical journey around Verdi, presented by "Ateliers de la Voix d’Aix". Three female voices bring to life a theatrical universe where dukes, queens, witches, and bohemians embark on an old train for a journey between love, hate, revenge, and forgiveness.
  • 6:00 pm – Opening & artist meeting (Salle des Arcades)
    Muriel and Nathanel present their creations, share their technical and artistic research, and exchange with the public about their approach.
  • 7:00 pm – Jazz concert with Les Suricats (Castle Courtyard)
  • Jazz concert with Les Suricats at Lauris Castle

    Brought together around multi-instrumentalist Jean-François Bonnel, the jazz band Les Suricats offers a lively and warm repertoire inspired by the 1920s/30s. Between light songs, deep blues, forgotten gems, and timeless standards, their music unfolds with the freedom and energy of improvisation.

SUNDAY

  • 10:30 am & 3:00 pm – Bibo the Gardener (Terrace des Arcades)
    A clownish and wacky show where a quirky gardener takes young and old into whimsical stories of seeds, magical plants, ogres, and giants.
  • 2:00 pm – Conference: Natural Paints! The Ecological Alternative (Espace Bloch)
    With Constance Thieux, decorative painter. She will present different natural and handcrafted paint solutions, suitable for both old buildings and contemporary constructions, combining environmental respect with sustainable aesthetics.
  • Artistic workshops and discoveries (Botanical Garden):
    - 3:30 pm – Shibori Workshop: Discover this ancient Japanese technique of natural dyeing that uses folding, tying, or crumpling of fabrics, sometimes combined with leaf pounding, to create unique and refined patterns.
    - 3:30 pm – Natural color: Mali, apprentice tattoo artist, presents the preparation of henna and offers small tattoos for a free price.
    - 3:00 pm – Discovery and tasting of green teas of the world from OCHAYA with Nicolas Espinasse
  • 5:30 pm – Musical tales (Under the castle’s lime tree)
    Let yourself be carried away by the voices of the storytellers from the Lambesc workshop *Gens de paroles*. Between emotion, humor, and poetry, they weave stories where words come alive and reveal all their magic.
  • Festival closing and farewell drink.

Throughout the festival

  • Exhibitions (Salle des Arcades)

- Muriel Daumal, painter and dyer: an explorer of plants, she develops her pictorial work through traditional dyeing techniques and presents a selection of her colourist research.
- The Natural Colour School: a graphic installation presenting four years of workshops and residencies from an open-air school.
- Nathanael, visual artist and photographer: a series of photographs created using the anthotype process (plant- and root-based) taken in Lauris, offering another perspective on landscapes and their human dimension.

  • Creative exhibitions & workshops (Cour des créateurs)

The artists and craftspeople of the Château Cour open their workshops: exhibitions and workshops
- Introduction to modelling with Adeline Dutel: workshop on Saturday from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm (€30, booking required at 06 14 32 92 01)
- Mosaic with Aurore Laty: workshops on Saturday and Sunday from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm (1-hour session, €15, booking required at 06 23 60 12 12)

  • Visit to the Dye Plant Garden

- Self-guided visit: stroll through a remarkable garden entirely dedicated to dye plants.
- Installation of works in natural colours: pictograms and letters created with an alphabet of shapes, the result of collective workshops from the Leisure Centre.
