Two days of festivities celebrating the Cavaillon melon

Every summer, Cavaillon celebrates the melon in all its forms with one of Provence’s must-see events: Melon en Fête!

On 3 and 4 July 2026, this new edition will shine a spotlight on the Cavaillon melon, a delicious emblem of the region and a product recognised by a PGI.

Markets, a major concert, the Roussataïo, a giant banquet, cooking demonstrations, games, parades and Provençal entertainment will set the rhythm for two festive days in the heart of the town.

Dress code for the festivities

Come dressed in white with a touch of orange, a simple and cheerful way to join in the festive spirit and celebrate the Cavaillon melon together.

A colourful celebration in the Luberon to enjoy with family or friends, blending gourmet pleasures, local heritage and a summery atmosphere.

The melon, a symbol of Cavaillon

Much more than just a summer fruit, the Cavaillon melon is a true emblem of Provençal terroir. Its sweet flesh, captivating fragrance and refreshing taste make it one of the season’s stars and a source of pride for the region.

Grown between the Durance and the Luberon, it has been part of the town’s history for centuries, celebrated on the finest tables and now recognised by a PGI, guaranteeing its origin and quality.

Melon en Fête pays tribute to this gourmet heritage, lovingly cultivated by local producers. A living tradition to savour without moderation.

Friday 3 July

7 pm

Launch of the festivities

Tourist Office car park, former Jewish cemetery

Induction ceremonies into the Order of the Melon Brotherhood, a popular aperitif offered by the Town of Cavaillon and distribution of bandanas.

From 8 pm to 12:30 am

Night market

Cours Gambetta

Artisans, designers, sweet treats and gift ideas await you in a lively summer atmosphere.

From 9 pm to 1 am

Grand concert with Cocktail de Nuit

Cours Gambetta, Place de l’Étoile

One of the major live orchestras on the French festive music scene will bring the town centre to life with a musical and dance show featuring singers, musicians and popular classics.

Emma Obadina will present her gourmet menu based around melon.

Grand Melon en Fête parade

Starts and finishes at Place du Clos

The traditional horse-drawn cart will parade alongside brotherhoods and Provençal groups. The route will pass along Cours Bournissac, Cours Victor Hugo, Rue de la République, Rue Raspail and Rue Aimé Boussot, before returning to Place du Clos.

Doors open from 7:30 pm. Dinner will be served at 8 pm. Please arrive before service begins so guests can be seated.

This large, friendly evening will bring together up to 500 guests in a festive atmosphere. The restaurants L’Instant Gourmand, Le Bistro du Clos, Le Cabanon and Ferron Traiteur will offer a menu specially created around the Cavaillon melon.

Roussataïo

Starts and finishes at Place du Clos

The passage of 100 free-running horses, over two laps, will once again offer a spectacular and eagerly awaited moment. The route will pass along Cours Bournissac, Cours Victor Hugo, Rue de la République, Rue Raspail and Rue Aimé Boussot, before returning to Place du Clos.

Melon en Fête with local shopkeepers

Town-centre shopkeepers are also taking part in the festivities with a shop-window competition and melon tastings. The shopkeepers’ association is helping to organise the grand banquet and the DJ evening.

Throughout the festivities, parking is free in Cavaillon. Several car parks are signposted around the town centre to make your visit to Melon en Fête easier.
