Discovering the Luberon between nature and heritage

Philippe Gourdin - Merindol

Located in Mérindol, Philippe Gourdin, passionate about local history and the richness of Provence, invites you to explore the wonders of the Luberon. An experienced mountain guide since May 2011, Philippe guides you through enriching outings, centered on the discovery of fauna, flora, geology, local products, and more. Each outing is unique, enriched by Philippe's in-depth knowledge on various subjects, and more particularly the Vaudois past, architecture, dry stone heritage, and the history of coal mines.

Philippe Gourdin, in collaboration with Jessy Juillard and Olivier Léonard, founded Horizons Luberon, a guide office dedicated to promoting the Luberon region. In addition to his local tours, Philippe works in partnership with the travel agency Chemins du Sud to offer itinerant tours in the south of France and Italy. Her commitment to the authenticity and quality of the tourist experience is reflected in every detail of her outings. Experienced hiker or nature lover, Philippe Gourdin - Le Baruleur promises you unforgettable experiences and exciting discoveries in the heart of this magnificent region.

He invites you to help you discover the Waldensians:

Departure from the central square of the village.
We walk through the streets of the old town: the oil mill, the temple, the church...
Then we took the direction of the Muse Museum. First approach to the history of the Vaudois in the outdoor space of the museum (explanatory panels).
The walk continues in the direction of the hill to go up to discover the remains of the ancient medieval castle and the ancient village. Stop at the top: Vaud memorial, reading the landscape that awaits us with the Durance Valley, the Costes chain, the Alpilles in the South, and the Petit Luberon chain in the North.
We get off the castle and we get back on the GR to leave for the hill, in the direction of the place called Peyre Plate. Evocation of the endemic vegetation, of the fauna present in the massif, of the significant events of the place (big fire in August 1980).
Arrival at the forest house in La Font de l'Orme: discovery of this educational space with the Arboretum.
We continue to the place called Plaine de St Phallez, an evocation of this specific Crau-type space.
Starting from the Plaine de St Phallez, climb to the Roquemière rock, a large limestone cliff overlooking the Durance plain, and emblematic rock of the village. Evocation of the geological characteristics of the Luberon massif.
Descent down the Roquemalière in the direction of the Sabatier valley, then back to the village.

Possibility to visit the Museum of the Muse, inside.

Possibility of tasting local products (tapenade, olive oil, wines of the region...) at the Wine Bar La Cave à Aimé, in the heart of the village. Paid service in addition to the announced rate.
