The Château de Mille extends over a hundred hectares, including 25 hectares of vineyards, between Apt and Bonnieux, in the heart of Provence and the Luberon Regional Natural Park.

The estate has been producing great wines since the 13th century, and probably as early as the Roman era. It is considered to be the oldest wine estate in Luberon.
Taken over in 2018 by Constance and Lawrence Slaughter, Château de Mille is experiencing a new dynamic, between wine restructuring, restoration of the castle and regeneration of the vineyard.
During the Sunsets Vignerons, the estate invites you to discover its certified organic wines, its heritage and its demanding vision of the land.
A revival between natural and cultural heritage
By taking over the Château de Mille, Constance and Lawrence Slaughter define themselves as the temporary guardians of a natural and cultural heritage.
Since their arrival, they have been carrying out a vast program of wine and wine restructuring, in parallel with the restoration of the castle and the enhancement of this historic site.
The restoration of Château de Mille mobilized a great deal of expertise, around historic renovation, high-tech wine cellars, gardens and interior fittings.
Terroir & know-how

The Luberon region, the eastermost of the Rhône Valley, enjoys remarkable freshness thanks to its altitude and to the cold air currents coming from the Alps through the Durance and Calavon rivers.
The Mille region, facing north, offers a unique profile, at the crossroads of the Luberon's geological axes: limestone scree, Urgonian, Miocene and Oligocene limestones, clay quartz and clay-sandy soils.
According to the analysis of the oeno-geologist Georges Truc, this land has truly exceptional potential.
Old vines and a great diversity of grape varieties
Château de Mille grows magnificent old vines: Grenache of 73 years, Syrah of 50 years on average and Carignan of 60 years, complemented by young Cinsault and Mourvèdre.
In white, the estate grows old Ugni and Clairette, Rolle, or Vermentino, as well as Grenache blanc, Bourboulenc and Marsanne, planted using massal selection.
Thanks to this range of grape varieties, the estate wishes to return to the tradition of great white wines from Mille, while producing fine, aromatic and expressive reds, whites and rosés.
Winemaking & aging

The estate has initiated a vast restructuring program to produce red, rosé and white wines using modern and ecological methods.
The grapes, harvested by hand from almost the entire estate, are sorted carefully in the vineyard and then on a sorting table. Vinification and aging are carried out in concrete tanks, thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks, oak vats, casks, half-muids, concrete eggs and terracotta amphorae.
This diversity of containers makes it possible to refine blends, to limit sulphiting and to produce wines that are as natural as possible, fully faithful to the fruit and to the soil.
A biodynamically managed vineyard
The estate pursues an active strategy of regeneration of the vineyard and biodiversity. Today, the vineyard is managed biodynamically, which is essential for the production of great wines, depending on the estate.
Herbal teas, dung horn and the lunar calendar are used as tools to strengthen the health and resilience of the vines, as well as the quality of the grapes.
This approach brings additional purity to the wines and accompanies the precision work carried out on the estate's old vines.
