Located in the heart of the Luberon Regional Natural Park, between Avignon and Aix-en-Provence, Château La Canorgue is a family estate that has remained in the same family for more than 200 years.

Since the 1970s, Jean-Pierre Margan, a pioneer of organic farming, has cultivated his vines with great care on an exceptional terroir.
He passed on his passion and experience to his daughter Nathalie, who now represents the estate’s fifth generation of winemakers.
Regularly awarded, the wines of Château La Canorgue are recognised as a benchmark in the Luberon.
A family and Roman history
Built on the site of an ancient Roman villa, Château La Canorgue takes its name from the many underground channels that the Romans carved into the rock to collect water.
A fiefdom elevated to a county by Pope Benedict XIV, the estate charms visitors with its character, simplicity and deep roots in the Luberon landscape.
In the early 1970s, Martine and Jean-Pierre Margan revived the estate by restoring the vineyard and cellar. A first gold medal at the Concours Général Agricole in Paris, in 1979, rewarded this passionate work.
Terroir & expertise
Between Provence and the Rhône Valley, Château La Canorgue enjoys a privileged location for vine growing, on the northern slopes of the Luberon.
The estate’s 40 hectares are planted with Rhône and Mediterranean grape varieties for the AOP Luberon: Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Viognier, Roussanne, Marsanne, Bourboulenc and Vermentino.
The average age of the vines is around 40 years, with a few 80-year-old plots and some century-old vines. Low yields, from 15 to 30 hl per hectare, are intended to prioritise wine quality.
The first certified organic vineyard in the Luberon
Château La Canorgue was the very first vineyard in the Luberon to be certified for organic farming.
For more than 40 years, Jean-Pierre Margan has made respect for nature and the creation of great wines, as naturally as possible, a guiding principle.
The entire vineyard is farmed organically, with some biodynamic principles, without weedkillers, insecticides, pesticides, fungicides or systemic products.
Natural practices to enhance the terroir
Traditional treatments based on sulphur and copper are used in small quantities and supplemented with plant decoctions such as nettle or horsetail.
Regular ploughing enables mechanical weed control while stimulating microbial life in the soil and encouraging the vines to root deeply.
Organic amendments from organic farming enrich the soils and encourage the expression of the terroir, as part of a rigorous pursuit of quality monitored by Ecocert.
Wines & cuvées
Château La Canorgue produces high-quality wines with character, shaped by an exceptional terroir and precise work carried out both in the vineyard and in the cellar.
Originality is part of the estate’s identity: alongside the grape varieties of the AOP Luberon, more unusual varieties for the region, such as Merlot, Cabernet and Gamay, are used for wines under the IGP Méditerranée designation.
The consistency and quality of the wines are often praised through awards, guides and magazines, making the estate an essential reference in the Luberon.
