Discover 3 hiking routes in the Luberon to walk, breathe, and admire remarkable landscapes and panoramic views in spring. Ideas in Cheval-Blanc, Les Taillades, and Lauris.
In spring, the Luberon changes its rhythm. The trails awaken and the landscapes are dressed in flowers. It is the ideal season to gain some height and rediscover the scenery.
From limestone cliffs to gentle valleys, each hike reveals a different side of the massif. Hikers will walk through fragrant pine forests, historic paths, and wilder spaces where the view stretches far... very far.
Here are three hiking routes offering true moments of contemplation facing the Luberon landscapes, along with their guidebooks: the Roquette to Crau des Mayorques route in Cheval-Blanc, the Rochers de Baude in Les Taillades, and the Portalas trail and biodiversity along the way in Lauris.
The Luberon hiking trails can be rocky and uneven. Hiking shoes with good grip are strongly recommended. A small lightweight backpack with water, a cap, and a windbreaker is usually enough in spring.
Spring offers ideal temperatures, but the light is even more pleasant in the morning or late afternoon. Colours are more vivid, panoramas more contrasted, and walking becomes more comfortable.
Remember to bring enough water, especially when climbing towards viewpoints. Take advantage of open areas to rest and admire the scenery.
Marked paths help protect biodiversity. They also ensure a safer and more peaceful hike, especially in rocky areas.
Spring is a season rich in blooming flowers and wildlife activity. Staying discreet, not picking plants, and taking your waste back with you helps preserve the natural balance.

Distance : 8.9 km (loop)
Starting from Cheval-Blanc, the trail gradually climbs towards a wilder landscape. The first section crosses a Mediterranean natural environment where pine forests, garrigue scrubland, and pastoral areas alternate. The terrain then becomes steeper, announcing the arrival on higher ground.
The ascent towards the Crau des Mayorques slowly changes the perspective. As you gain altitude, views open up over the Durance Valley. The contrast between the pale limestone of the Luberon and the cultivated land creates a panorama that is highly characteristic of the destination.
The plateau offers a true feeling of space and silence: a moment of contemplation that invites you to slow down and fully enjoy the peacefulness of the landscape. The descent via the Croupatas passage gradually leads back into a more wooded atmosphere, along a rocky path typical of Petit Luberon hikes.

The ascent to the Crau des Mayorques offers a fabulous view over the Durance Valley. This hike is a true immersion in the heart of Provence and its remarkable biodiversity: cliffs, tall pine trees, garrigue scrubland (...). A complete route combining effort, history, and wide-open landscapes.

Right from the start, stone sets the tone. In this village, stone is everywhere. The trail quickly climbs between cliffs and limestone formations, witnesses to the mineral history of Les Taillades. The ascent is demanding, but every turn reveals a new perspective. In the heart of the Badarel Gorges, a ladder helps you climb a steep section. Then suddenly, the Rochers de Baude appear.
The landscape stretches out, offering striking views over the Petit Luberon massif and the limestone cliffs. This hike is especially appreciated by walkers who enjoy scenery sculpted by time. The panorama quickly becomes an invitation to stop, observe… and fully enjoy the moment.

What I love here is stopping for a few minutes at the Rochers de Baude to admire the view. The ascent is sporty and requires some effort, but the feeling of pushing yourself and escaping into nature is truly intense.

This hiking route in the heart of nature in Lauris is best enjoyed for its subtle variety. The trail crosses a mosaic of landscapes: pine forests, garrigue scrubland, oak woods, and small groves (...). The walk unfolds in a peaceful atmosphere, punctuated by the sounds of nature. Lauris has also been recognized for its commitment to nature through its Local Biodiversity Atlas, developed in partnership with the Luberon Regional Natural Park. Gradually, the paths lead you to the Portalas viewpoint. Get ready for breathtaking views.
On the way back, between holm oaks and rocky outcrops, your discovery continues with a dry-stone borie and the Luberon underground water gallery.
❤ Fabrice’s favourite, experienced hiker and nature guide
What I enjoy most about this hiking trail is its peaceful atmosphere and the diversity of landscapes. I like taking the time to observe the flora before enjoying the openings over the valley, which naturally invite you to slow down.
Hiking trails in the Luberon reveal a truly rejuvenating atmosphere. As you move along the routes, the landscape opens up, offering that precious feeling of escape. For those wondering where to hike in the Luberon, these itineraries provide great inspiration. Three different experiences, three distinct walking trails, yet one shared pleasure: watching the landscape gradually unfold at the end of the path. Sometimes, just a few steps are enough to change your perspective… and discover the Luberon in a new way.
