In Le Thor, only a few kilometers from Avignon, the Thouzon Grottes invite you to discover things that are as surprising as they are refreshing. It is the only natural cave designed for tourism in Provence, a remarkable site where geology tells the ancient history of the territory.
Discovered in 1902 during the operation of a quarry, the cave was immediately preserved. This early protection now makes it possible to explore a place that has remained intact, shaped over time by water and geological phenomena.
Ideal for a family outing, the Thouzon Grottes combine an educational visit, a magical atmosphere and a refreshing break in an original natural setting, in the heart of Provence.
The route follows the fossil bed of an ancient underground river, whose action has sculpted galleries, reliefs and concretions over the millennia.

Throughout the guided tour, you progress through a unique underground environment, marked by amazing mineral formations and by beautiful stalactites in shades of yellow and gold, which are among the visual signatures of the site.
The visit allows you to better understand the formation of the cave, the role of water in the modeling of the rock and the geological richness of this natural space. It is a discovery that is as educational as it is sensory, accessible to a wide audience.
With a constant temperature of 13°C all year round, the Thouzon Grottes also offer a pleasant break during the hottest days.

The Thouzon Grottes are now recognized as a true natural eco-museum, a kind of open-air library where the main stages of the Earth's geological and biological history can be read.
The visit appeals as much to lovers of natural heritage as to families looking for an original activity. Between wonder, freshness and scientific discovery, the site offers an experience that is both fun and rewarding.
Since 2025, the site has evolved with new lighting, a new sound and light show, a 120 m² shop and a new snack bar, for an even more immersive discovery.
Whether you're visiting the caves for the first time or coming back, the tour promises a fresh look at this iconic underground site.
The discovery of the Thouzon Caves can easily be extended on site thanks to several services designed for the comfort of visitors.

You will find a souvenir shop, a snack bar, a refreshment bar and a shaded area with a picnic area on site. Free parking is also available to facilitate access to the site.
Fast food allows you to take a convivial break before or after the visit, with several proposals adapted to an outing with family or friends.
These facilities make the experience more comfortable and contribute to making the Thouzon Grottes an idea for a complete visit, combining natural heritage and moments of relaxation.
