In an exceptional setting facing the village, the Château de Lourmarin, the first Renaissance Château in Provence, consists of two parts: The old castle built at the end of the 15th century by Foulques d'Agoult. Its "great elegance" is noticeable thanks to its Italian-style loggia. The 16th century Renaissance wing is fully furnished and contains collections from the 15th to the 19th century.
The oldest part of Lourmarin castle was built in the 15th century by Foulques d'Agoult. From 1526 onwards, Louis d'Agoult-Montaubaun and his wife, Blanche de Lévis-Ventadour, had the Renaissance wing built with a remarkable unity and purity of style.
After the revolution, the castle had several owners who lost interest in it. It narrowly escaped complete destruction thanks to Laurent-Vibert. Visiting Lourmarin in 1920, this academic, heir of the company, was seduced by the charm of the castle, bought it and restored it.
When he died in 1925, Robert Laurent-Vibert bequeathed the castle to the Academy of Sciences, Agriculture, Arts and Belles Lettres of Aix, so that it could become a residence for artists.

In addition to its exceptional architecture, the Château de Lourmarin boasts some very fine collections: furniture (from the 16th to the 19th centuries), engravings, objets d'art and musical instruments.
In 2019, it has extended its tour by opening four additional rooms in the medieval section: two beautiful libraries and two vaulted rooms.

On the occasion of the centenary of Robert Laurent-Vibert’s passing (1884–1925), the Fondation de Lourmarin pays tribute to him through a unique exhibition, "Les Voyages", offering a glimpse into his view of the world through his collection of artworks and historical documents.

As the first Renaissance château in Provence, the Château de Lourmarin continues to evolve and expand its program to amaze and welcome more visitors every day of the year (except December 25 and January 1). It offers a variety of events and highlights suitable for all ages and interests.
