In Mérindol, Pierre-Jean Amar presents a talk devoted to the history of photography, from the earliest forms of representation to the emergence of this new process in the 19th century.
From prehistoric drawings and engravings, human beings have sought to transmit their thoughts and preserve a visible trace of the world.
Through 80 iconic images, the encounter will retrace the major developments in photography and the transformations in the way we represent, document and look at the world.

Nicéphore Niépce’s work in 1826 opened a decisive chapter in the history of the image and its reproduction.
From 1839 onwards, Louis Daguerre’s work enabled photography to spread more widely.
An independent photographer since 1977, Pierre-Jean Amar combines his artistic work with an important commitment to sharing knowledge about photography.
Author of several books dedicated to the history of this medium, he has also presented more than 150 exhibitions in France and abroad.
His talk offers an accessible, illustrated journey to better understand the origins, uses and major transformations of photography.
