Wild plant during the edible plants workshop in Cavaillon

Would you know how to recognise the wild edible plants growing around us? During this workshop in Cavaillon, Laurène Michel, science educator at Savante Nature, invites participants to reconnect with a skill that was once widely shared: identifying and using wild plants.

Observation, touch, smell and tasting become genuine tools for discovery. The workshop introduces several Mediterranean plants, from familiar species to lesser-known varieties, while also covering some simple botanical basics, including flower anatomy, leaf shapes and major plant families.

This introduction encourages you to look at the wild flora around you in a new way while gaining a better understanding of its diversity and richness.

Learn the principles of responsible foraging

Recognising a wild plant is only part of the process: the workshop also explores the good practices to follow when foraging in nature. Participants learn how to respect natural habitats and why certain species require particular protection.

Special attention is also given to the precautions that should be taken before eating any wild plant, helping participants understand how to avoid confusion between edible and toxic species. A fun and accessible approach to observing, identifying and understanding the plants that grow around us.

A botanical workshop as part of the Science Festival

The Wild edible plants through the 5 senses workshop is organised as part of the Science Festival. This introduction combines scientific observation, sensory exploration and the discovery of Mediterranean biodiversity to make botany accessible through a practical and participatory approach.
