Château de Lourmarin, 2 avenue Laurent Vibert, 84160, Lourmarin
Thursday 20 August 2026 from 9 pm.

The Château de Lourmarin welcomes pianist Karen Kuronuma for a piano recital as part of the Summer Music Festival programme.
With a programme bringing together Scarlatti, Debussy, Granados and Rachmaninoff, this evening offers a colourful musical journey, between Baroque virtuosity, sound impressions, Spanish passion and Romantic lyricism.
In the heritage setting of the château, audiences are invited to travel through contrasting atmospheres, from Scarlatti’s dancing rhythms to Rachmaninoff’s great expressive works.
The programme opens with several Scarlatti sonatas, including Sonata K. 239, nicknamed Fandango. The piano brings out lively rhythms, dancing accents and luminous energy, between virtuosity and Mediterranean spirit.
With Debussy, the evening then takes on more pictorial shades. Estampes, with Pagodes, La soirée dans Grenade and Jardins sous la pluie, invites audiences on a nuanced sound journey, between an imagined Orient, nocturnal Spain and luminous rain.
After the interval, Granados extends this expressive atmosphere with excerpts from Goyescas, before Rachmaninoff brings the recital to a close, between inner song, Romantic intensity and pianistic breadth.
Did you know?
Debussy’s Estampes form a piano triptych inspired by distant landscapes and imagined worlds. With Pagodes, La soirée dans Grenade and Jardins sous la pluie, the composer suggests more than he describes, like a series of sound paintings.
Interval
The recital begins at 9 pm. Doors open from 8 pm, allowing audiences to enjoy the terraces of the Château de Lourmarin and share a picnic before the concert.
An ideal summer interlude combining classical music, heritage and the Luberon art of living.
