The Château de Lourmarin welcomes pianist Rodolphe Menguy for a piano recital featured in the Summer Music Festival programme.
From Debussy to Liszt, from Chopin to Tchaikovsky, this concert offers a musical journey rich in contrasts, between Impressionist refinement, Romantic brilliance, folk-inspired colours and a fairytale world.
In the heritage setting of the château, this evening invites audiences to discover the full expressive range of the piano, between poetry, virtuosity and imagination.
The programme opens with the refined atmospheres of Claude Debussy, where sounds, scents and images seem to echo one another in a writing full of nuance. With Les sons et les parfums, Les fées and Feux d’artifice, the piano becomes, in turn, suggestive, luminous and vibrant.
The evening continues with Kodály’s Dances of Marosszék, inspired by Hungarian folk traditions, followed by Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsodies, brilliant and virtuosic works that unleash all the energy of the keyboard.
After the interval, Chopin brings elegance and poetic depth, before pieces by Mel Bonis and excerpts from The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky, transcribed by Mikhail Pletnev, for a concert finale filled with enchantment, dance and brilliance.
