In Cavaillon, Christine Cornillet presents a talk devoted to Dorothea Lange, a major figure in social documentary photography in the United States.
Convinced that photography could help change the way people see the world, Dorothea Lange took an early interest in the social realities of her time.
Her images, now iconic, give a central place to the women, men and families affected by hardship and precarity.
Dorothea Lange first documented urban poverty before turning her lens towards populations affected by the 1929 crisis.
Her work led her across many American states to bear witness to lives disrupted by hardship, displacement and uncertainty.
The talk will offer a deeper understanding of Dorothea Lange’s commitment and the human power of her photographic gaze.
Christine Cornillet has been supporting photographers in their practice since 1993 and regularly gives talks on the history of photography.
A cultural mediator at Campredon Art & Image since 2015, she also designs solo and group exhibitions.
This encounter will be an opportunity to better grasp the journey, commitment and artistic scope of Dorothea Lange’s work.
