Secure wooden viewpoint overlooking the Durance river in Mérindol

Created in 2020 by Luberon Monts-de-Vaucluse Agglomération, the Garrigue trail, located in Mérindol, was designed to promote inclusion. Labeled Tourism & Disability for all four types of disabilities (motor, visual, auditory, and mental), it offers a 1.2 km round-trip trail, secure and accessible to all, from families with strollers to people with reduced mobility or in recovery.

This path through the pine forest leads to a secure viewpoint overlooking the Durance Valley, offering a remarkable panorama to visitors. Along the way, adapted interpretation panels help better understand the features of this Sensitive Natural Area, which combines forest, garrigue, and protected agricultural land.

The trail includes listening points for bird observation, with over 59 species recorded, such as the robin, the golden oriole, and the rare ortolan bunting. The flora is equally rich: garrigue landscapes with rosemary, white rockrose, and kermes oak unfold along the trail. You may also spot the ocellated lizard, the largest lizard in Europe, a protected species that lives near old almond trees or sunlit stone piles.

Accessible all year round, this very easy trail (15 m elevation gain) offers a gentle and educational immersion in a preserved Mediterranean environment.
