Poster of the 'The Journeys' exhibition at the Château de Lourmarin, showcasing photographs, engravings, and paintings in tribute to Robert Laurent-Vibert, available from 03/2025 to 03/2026

On the occasion of the centenary of the death of Robert Laurent-Vibert (1884-1925), the Fondation de Lourmarin pays tribute to him through an unprecedented exhibition, "The Journeys", which invites visitors to discover his perspective on the world through his collection of art objects and historical documents.

A passionate scholar and explorer, Robert Laurent-Vibert traveled through Greece, the Middle East, and North Africa, collecting engravings, maps, and books from the 16th to the 18th century. These exceptional pieces form the core of the exhibition, alongside works by his painter friends Pierre Beppi-Martin and Charles Martel, artistic witnesses to his inspirations.

In resonance with Laurent-Vibert’s explorations, the second part of the exhibition highlights two contemporary photographers:

  • Mohamed Mahdy reveals an intimate look at the invisible communities of Egypt through striking images, awarded the World Press Photo 2023.
  • Clément Chapillon explores the memory and imagination of Greek landscapes with his series "The Wild Rocks", awarded by the Fondation des Treilles.
