1. Autumn-coloured landscapes
The Luberon is decked out in warm, golden colours during All Saints' Day. The leaves on the trees put on their autumn mantle, creating an enchanting visual spectacle. Set off to explore the wonderful landscapes of the Luberon and Monts de Vaucluse and discover some hidden treasures.
Here are a few not-to-be-missed highlights:
Contemplate the village of Gordes at sunset. A timeless moment awaits you in this perched village, listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France. Heart-warming colours... If you have a little time, don't miss the atmosphere of the Abbaye-Notre-Dame de Sénanque for a special moment of calm and history.
This is the ideal time to explore the Luberon vineyards: immerse yourself in the unique soul of Château la Verrerie. Let yourself be guided through the estate, discovering its vineyards and its vinification and ageing cellars. Finally, taste its organic wines in the cellar. A moment out of time. There is a charge for this activity, which must be booked in advance. Please contact the winery.
2. Hiking
Hiking at this time of year promises an explosion of colour! The leaves are dressed in their autumn colours of yellow, orange, brown and red. From any of our villages, you can stroll through the Luberon and the Monts de Vaucluse, passing through landscapes of forest, limestone cliffs and cedar trees on a variety of signposted footpaths that will guide you... Whether you're an experienced hiker or not, we have walks and circuits to suit all levels and tastes... It's the perfect time of year to make some wonderful memories in the Luberon, with its unforgettable flora and fauna.
Here are a few not-to-be-missed highlights:
Take a stroll in the Cedar Forest: an outing in the fresh air surrounded by cedars to enjoy the peace and quiet... Breathe, enjoy... A relatively flat botanical trail (3km, approx. 1? hours) will enable you to discover the wealth of local flora and fauna (garrigue, cedar grove), the main species of which are signposted along the way. An experience to share with the whole family.
Destination Luberon takes you on a walk around Saumane de Vaucluse to discover a picturesque and authentic itinerary based on the theme of dry stone. You'll discover a rich natural and historical heritage and one of the jewels of the region: the Château de Saumane. If you're a keen sportsman, there are two gourmet hikes on the programme: truffle hikes on 25 November and wine hikes on 9 December. Please note that these hikes are only available by reservation.
3. Cycling
The Luberon is a great place for exploring the region's varied landscapes and villages by bike. Getting around by bike means taking your time and soaking up this beautiful region in a different way, between cliffs, garrigues, flamboyantly coloured vineyards, ochre (...).
Here are a few not-to-be-missed highlights:
Discover the Gordes à Vélo route and marvel at the villages of Gordes, Murs and Joucas in the heart of the Monts de Vaucluse: a trip along the back roads offers breathtaking panoramas, punctuated by bories and old mills, a journey through history and the beauty of the countryside.
The Parc Naturel Régional du Luberon also offers many other itineraries to suit all levels! Experienced sports enthusiasts and beginners alike can enjoy the destination to the full. There are cycle routes, signposted itineraries along small roads and, of course, the Espace VTT Provence Luberon Lure, which also offers more than 60 signposted mountain bike routes. Suspend time and enjoy the freedom of these breathtaking natural landscapes!
4. Adventure
What if you took advantage of your holidays to experience new sensations? Holidays, that precious time away from the daily routine, offer a unique opportunity to venture out of your comfort zone and explore new horizons!
Here are a few not-to-be-missed activities:
Go on an adventure on the Via Ferrata in Cavaillon! Just a few minutes' walk from the Montée César de Bus, next to Cavaillon tourist office. The first "Via Natura" route is more of a family affair, allowing you to discover the heights of the town of Cavaillon and its breathtaking views. Enjoy an original experience somewhere between hiking and climbing!
Fancy a canine walk? Enjoy 1? hours of pure pleasure in the company of sled dogs. Equip your dogs and set off on a hike in the heart of the Vaucluse region with Qanittak. If you like adventure and discovering new places, cani-hiking can be the perfect way to explore new playgrounds.
5. Events
Here are a few not-to-be-missed events:
Experience a fascinating day in Lourmarin! As part of the Fascinating Weekend "Vignobles et Découvertes - Destination Luberon", wine lovers and enthusiasts can explore the diversity and splendour of the world of vines and wine. Lourmarin is the place to be on 22 October. On the programme: bike ride, hike, yoga class, wine-tasting workshop, not forgetting the theatrical show Anthocyane THE play that makes you love wine. Enjoy a story of love and wine, glass in hand. As well as attending a theatrical performance, you'll also be immersed in the world of wine, with tastings to boot! Admission to the various activities is free, but booking is required.
For younger visitors, and because October means Halloween, the town of Cavaillon is offering the chance for families to discover the tales and mysteries of our region, with the Beaumes de Venise TRAC "Mon Bestiaire d'Halloween" (My Halloween Bestiary) on Saturday 28 October at 8.30pm, at the Salle du Moulin Saint Julien. Show must be booked in advance.
Autumn can also be enjoyed in the Luberon! Stroll through the Provencal markets, bursting with colour and scents. You'll discover local produce and seasonal fruit and vegetables, with butternuts, pumpkins and other gourds taking pride of place.
