In summer, lavender in the Luberon delights children and adults alike! Whether you want to admire the flowering fields, make a scented sachet or set off on a walk surrounded by fragrant scents, lavender becomes a wonderful way to discover nature as a family.

Here are our ideas for fun, creative and educational activities to enjoy with your children around this emblematic flower of Provence. A captivating and soothing fragrance, landscapes that invite you to slow down... an impressive and enchanting canvas of this blue gold of Provence... awakening all the senses! Create lasting memories and let your creativity flow.

When can you see lavender in bloom?

Fine lavender begins to flower in mid-June and reaches its peak between late June and mid-July. Lavandin flowers a little later, until late July, or even early August at higher altitudes.

Our advice: To make the most of the colours and avoid the harvest period, plan your stay before 10 July.

Our suggestion

Combine your lavender outing with our nature walks & discovery tours or with a visit to our hilltop villages. The Luberon always has a surprise waiting around the bend.

The Lavender Festival in Sault

Lavender Festival in Sault, parade and activities among the lavender fields

Every 15 August, the village of Sault, at the foot of Mont Ventoux, celebrates Provence’s emblematic flower with a festival full of colours and fragrances.

Held for more than 35 years, the Lavender Festival brings together Provençal traditions, family activities, distillation demonstrations, sickle cutting competitions, folk parades and a producers’ market. A festive day rooted in the local terroir, ideal for immersing yourself in the region’s lavender-growing culture.

Our tip: arrive early to make the most of the activities, avoid the crowds and soak up the unique atmosphere of the Sault plateau in the heart of summer.

Your museum visit ends with a sensory discovery: head to the shop to smell and try PDO Haute-Provence lavender essential oil, perfumes and organic cosmetics. Children will then correct their quiz with the Lavender Team and receive a young lavender grower diploma.

Children’s workshop - Making a lavender sachet

At the Lavender Museum Luberon, children get hands-on with a creative workshop: making their own lavender sachet. Fabric, ribbon, lavender and Mediterranean aromatic plants become the ingredients of a small scented souvenir to create themselves, according to their wishes and favourite colours.

Guided by an activity leader, children discover lavender in a different way, by handling it, smelling it and learning to recognise some of Provence’s emblematic plants such as thyme, rosemary, mint and sage. The activity is simple, fun and ideal for younger visitors: everyone leaves with their own creation to slip into a wardrobe, suitcase or bedroom, like a little piece of the Luberon to take home. To extend the experience, the museum visit helps visitors better understand the history of fine lavender, harvesting, distillation and Provençal know-how.

Average duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
