Robion is THE Provençal village with its church square, its fountain, its mountain, its plane trees and... its petanque players! Frederic Mistral said Robion was the key to the Luberon.
The initial site was occupied very early by men. The presence of caves and water provided shelter and subsistence. The village was built at its present location in the Middle Ages. The castle, of which there are only a few ramparts and an access gate (Le Portalet), was not a large building but rather a rampart protecting the villagers.
Robion was born of a permanent contrast between rock and water, between the cliff and the spring, between the plain and the river. This village has crossed the centuries by perching on the hill and building a castle whose remains can still be seen while walking through the old streets of the village.
Below you will discover the village square with typical Provencal charm and its 12th century church. Starting point for many hikes in the Luberon, Robion combines architectural heritage and nature.
