A village with character

Between the plain and the Luberon, Robion has preserved the spirit of a true Provençal village. Its old centre, built on the hillside, has retained its cobbled lanes, stone houses and peaceful atmosphere all year round. Here, time seems to slow down, inviting you to stroll under the plane trees and listen to the sound of the fountains.

The heart of the village is organised around the Church of Notre-Dame de la Nativité, a beautiful 12th-century Romanesque building, easily recognisable by its shaded forecourt. A little higher up, the remains of the old ramparts recall the village’s medieval past, while the lower part opens onto the plain, orchards and walking paths.

Robion is a village on a human scale, simple and welcoming, where you’ll find everything that makes Provence so charming: heritage, friendliness and a way of life close to nature.

A history shaped by stone and time

Between the fertile plain and the first foothills of the Luberon, Robion draws its roots from a long history shaped by stone. As early as the Middle Ages, the village was equipped with ramparts, a lordly castle (now vanished), and a fortified church, all witnesses to its strategic role between mountain and valley. Built on the hillside, Robion has always watched over the Cavaillon plain, combining a defensive vocation with agricultural life.

While strolling through the old village, you can still see the remains of the ramparts integrated into the houses, the cobbled streets where time seems to stand still, and the stone houses that preserve the memory of past centuries. At the heart of the village stands the Church of Notre-Dame de la Nativité, a Romanesque gem from the 12th century and a major landmark of local heritage. Its shaded forecourt remains a favourite meeting place, where calm, coolness and Provençal charm blend harmoniously.

This strong presence of stone, in the walls, streets and even in the former quarry of the open-air theatre, reminds us how closely Robion’s history is linked to its natural surroundings. Here, heritage and landscape echo one another, offering a constant dialogue between memory and nature.

The open-air theatre, a cultural symbol of Robion

Robion’s open-air theatre carved into the Luberon rock

Among Robion’s hidden treasures, the open-air theatre is undoubtedly the most iconic. Set in a former stone quarry transformed into a unique cultural venue, it reflects both the village’s mineral and agricultural past and its ability to reinvent itself. Naturally integrated into the heart of old Robion, it recalls the importance of stone throughout the village’s history.

After quarrying activities ceased, Robion turned towards the plain and the Carpentras Canal, giving new momentum to its agricultural and artisanal development. Today, this quarry converted into an open-air theatre hosts concerts, performances and festivals every summer. Its imposing cliffs offer exceptional natural acoustics, making each evening a suspended moment between culture and nature, in the very heart of the Luberon.

Favourite

Every summer, the open-air theatre of Robion hosts the Robion Festival. In this exceptional natural setting, carved into the rock at the foot of the Luberon, concerts, shows and cultural events follow one another. The unique acoustics of the cliffs and the magic of summer evenings make each performance an unforgettable experience, between sky, stone and music.

Nature at the heart of the village

Robion also owes its charm to the water that brings it to life. Its fountain, once a public well, recalls everyday life of the past and the strong bond between the village and its agricultural surroundings. Further down, the Carpentras Canal borders the orchards and invites you to take a stroll, between freshness and the scents of the garrigue. It is in these small details – a flowered alley, a weathered stone, the murmur of a fountain – that the village’s true authenticity is revealed.

The Boulon spring, a haven of freshness

A little further south of the village, the Boulon spring also bears witness to this natural wealth. Nestled at the foot of the Baude rocks, it offers a peaceful setting where the coolness of the water contrasts with the stone and the garrigue. This Vaucluse spring rises in Robion at an altitude of 128 m, before flowing through Les Taillades and joining the Coulon River in Cavaillon.

The site, much appreciated by walkers, changes appearance with the seasons. Almost dry in summer, it comes back to life after the rains, revealing vibrant nature and great ecological richness. Among crested tits, butterflies and flower-filled meadows, the Boulon spring is a place of calm and contemplation, perfect for a nature break just a few steps from the village.

Between hills and plain, an exceptional natural setting

Perched on the hillside, old Robion offers a superb panorama over the Cavaillon plain and the first foothills of the Luberon. Below, the newer part of the village has preserved its rural spirit, dotted with orchards and winding walking paths. This balance between built heritage and generous nature makes Robion a harmonious place to live, both discreet and deeply rooted in its land.
