Guest Rooms Reference

The aim is to enable non-labelled bed and breakfasts to guarantee the quality of their service to their customers, while helping to improve the quality of tourist accommodation in the destination. Chambre d'hôtes référence® is not intended to replace the labels, but to be a solution for operators who wish to upgrade their offer but do not wish to join a label.

Why have your bed and breakfast qualified?

The number of bed and breakfasts is increasing in all tourist destinations, and it is difficult for customers to know whether the service they are buying will be of high quality.

Tourist Offices and other tourism institutions are keen to ensure the quality of the tourist offer by promoting accommodation that complies with a set of standards and has passed an inspection.

Chambres d'hôtes référence® fully meets these requirements.

What types of guest rooms are covered by Chambres d'hôtes référence®?

The Chambre d'hôtes référence® standards distinguish between two types of guest room:

- Double or family room: a single room (excluding bathroom and toilet), accommodating up to 5 people (including children, excluding infants).

- Suite: consisting of 2 or 3 rooms rented to the same family or group and sharing bathroom facilities, for a maximum of 5 people per room (including children, excluding infants). The rooms are connected to each other by the bathroom or, failing that, by a private area (e.g. landing, corridor).

Essential information

years

This is the period of validity of the Chambres d'hôtes référence® qualification.

Intermediate inspection visits may be carried out at the request of the award committee, particularly in the event of customer complaints.

How to become a Chambre d'hôtes référence®?

All you have to do is complete the "Request for a visit" form and return it, together with your receipt for the town hall declaration, to the organisation listed on page 2 of the "Request for a visit" form. The "visit request" document will either have been given to you with this guide, or can be requested from your Tourist Office.
You will then be contacted by your Tourist Office to arrange a date to visit the guest room(s).
Once the visit has taken place, the complete visit file will be forwarded by the person who carried out the visit to the departmental or regional award committee, which will decide whether or not to award the Chambre d'hôtes référence® qualification. This procedure guarantees the neutrality of the decision-making process.
If the decision is favourable, you will receive by post a certificate to keep and a certificate of qualification, as well as information on the means of communication linked to Chambre d'hôtes référence®. The certificate must be made available to guests in each room, either by displaying it on a wall or door, or by making it available with existing documentation.

What is the purpose of the visit?

The visit is carried out by an authorised person who has undergone training. This person is an employee of the Tourist Office or the organisation responsible for managing the qualification in your area. The purpose of the visit is to check that your bed and breakfast(s) meet(s) the criteria of the related standards, its location and the services provided to guests. During the visit, you will present your service as you do it for your customers: beds made, breakfast served, etc.
This visit is also an opportunity to discuss and advise on your business and the services provided by your Tourist Office.

How much does Chambre d'hôtes référence® cost?

The cost is linked solely to the qualification of your guest room. This includes consideration of your application, a visit to your bed and breakfast(s), a visit to the committee and the dispatch of documents relating to the award.
The purchase of dedicated signage is independent, and can be obtained once the qualification has been awarded.
There is no membership or annual fee for the Chambre d'hôtes référence® qualification.

You can find the full price list, depending on the number of guest rooms and their type, in the downloadable document "Request for a visit".
