The Destination Luberon Tourist Office is authorised to classify the Meublés de Tourisme (self-catering accommodation) on its territory and can help you with this process.

Destination Luberon has launched a new service for furnished-rental property owners. This new service gives them a single point of contact for the classification of their furnished accommodation, as well as advice on how to ensure a quality rental experience.

What is a meublé de tourisme?

"Furnished tourist accommodation is a furnished villa, flat or studio, for the exclusive use of the tenant, offered for rent to a visiting clientele who stay for a day, a week or a month and who do not make their home".

The advantages of classification

The classification of furnished tourist accommodation is a voluntary process, initiated at national level by the legislator, which qualifies the offer.

Here are the advantages:

  • Guarantee the quality of your accommodation to your customers, as star rating is one of the main criteria for consumer choice.
  • Benefit from an attractive tax regime (flat-rate deduction of 71% on the total amount of rental income instead of 50% for unclassified property).
  • Possibility of accepting holiday vouchers by becoming affiliated to the ANCV.
  • Take advantage of promotional tools to strengthen your market position.

The main principles of the classification

  • Star classification is voluntary and valid for 5 years.
  • Furnished tourist accommodation is assessed according to a national set of 133 criteria based on 3 main areas: "Equipment and layout", "Customer service" and "Accessibility and sustainable development".

The classification stages

  • The owner requests a file from the Tourist Office or downloads it from this page.
  • To complete the application, the owner must read the classification table for furnished tourist accommodation, which sets out the classification standards (1 to 5 * depending on the level of comfort of the facilities and services offered).

Based on these standards, the owner determines the classification category he or she wishes to apply for.

To obtain a date for a visit, the complete application must be returned to the Tourist Office with the following documents:

- The signed application form for a classification visit, together with payment by cheque made payable to the Trésor Public.

- Application for classification as a "meublé de tourisme" (cerfa n°11819*03)

- Declaration to the Town Hall (cerfa n°14004*04) or a copy if you have already been declared

- A duly completed and signed description of the property to be classified.

- The completed and signed confidentiality charter

  • Once the application has been received and checked, the technical advisor or his/her deputy will make an appointment with the owner to visit the property.
    Please note: the visit must be attended by the owner (or agent), who must present the property in its rented state.

The technical advisor undertakes to carry out the visit within a maximum of three months from receipt of the complete application.

  • The visit may last between 45 minutes and 2 hours, depending on the size of the property to be classified. The technical advisor and/or his deputy will check on site that the premises comply with the criteria in the classification table for the classification category requested by the owner.
  • After the classification visit, within one month the owner receives the classification decision (to be displayed in the furnished accommodation), the inspection grid and the detailed report of the visit, which must be retained.
  • The owner has 15 days in which to refuse the classification decision, otherwise it is valid for 5 years.

How much does classification cost?

- Furnished accommodation with 1 or 2 bedrooms: €160** (€170** excluding LMV communes)

- Furnished accommodation with 3 to 4 bedrooms: 170€** (180€** excluding LMV communes)

- Furnished accommodation with 5 bedrooms or more: 180€** (190€** excluding LMV communes)

- Re-inspection: €60

These rates include the cost of travel and processing all or part of the classification application.
